Namibia - 13 day Namibian nomadic safari

Sample itinerary

Trip Overview:Namibian nomad safari

Join us as we experience the untouched splendour of Namibia, a country with a rich kaleidoscope of stunning vistas, desert landscapes, elephants, fascinating cultures and friendly people.

Day 1 :

Arrive at the Windhoek Airport to be met by your local guide and overnight at a luxury lodge. Spacious, air-conditioned en suite rooms and a sparkling pool with a great view of the city.

Day 2 :

After breakfast, drive south through a striking landscape of acacia savannah that gradually gives way to desert as you approach Namib-Naukluft Park. This Park protects over 19,000 square miles of savannah grasslands, plains, Granite Mountains, lagoons, and canyons. Great walks!
Overnight at a comfortable lodge.

Day 3 :

Early morning start to Sossusvlei to capture the early morning light on these apricot coloured dunes. The Namib Desert is a world of shifting dunes, jagged mountains, and solitude, and it holds some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa, with sandy plains and endless expanses of savannah. With impressive mountain ranges and red dunes. The strikingly sculpted Sossusvlei Dunes, an intense red colour due to the iron oxide in the grains of sand, are among the highest and most picturesque in the world.
Overnight at a comfortable lodge.

Day 4 :

A short but spectacular charter flight whisks you over the Sossusvlei Dunes for a grand aerial view, and then along the Skeleton Coast, with its wind-sculpted dunes, dense sea fog, and jagged peaks. Enjoy a boat cruise on the Walvis Bay lagoon, where the high salinity and the resulting concentration of plankton makes it a haven for flamingos, pelicans, gulls, and wading birds.
Overnight at a hotel in the coastal town of Swakopmund.

Days 5-6 :

Head inland to Damaraland, part of the Kaokoveld, known for its unusual wildlife, pastoral tribes, and ancient rock art. Damaraland is unique in that it is not a park or game concession; it is wild land and all the wildlife here is truly free roaming. This is the southernmost habitat for the rare black rhino and desert elephant and you'll explore the vicinity of the Huab River (an area not entered by many visitors) looking for these specially adapted desert elephants. Visit the ancient rock paintings at Twyfelfontein, created during the Stone Age.
Overnight at a luxury camp, set amongst imposing boulders.

Day 7 :

Your journey takes you via Uis and Khorixas to the Kamanjab Area, on the eastern Etosha National Park boundary. Hobatere Lodge lies in a private concession area that of 32 000 hectares which is home to a wide selection of game such as elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, spotted & brown hyena, gemsbok, eland, giraffe, kudu, springbok, Hartman's zebra, aardvark, aardwolf, Cape fox and bat-eared fox. Informative bush walks , game drives and night drives.

Day 8 :

Travel north to visit a Himba village and spend time learning about their customs and traditions. They are semi-nomadic pastoralists who tend to trek from one watering place to another. They maintain a tradition of their own, on which other cultures have made little impression and for many centuries they have lived a relatively isolated existence.
Overnight at a comfortable lodge.

Day 9-10 :

Enter the eastern part of Etosha and spend a full day in this magnificent wildlife paradise, renowned for its big game—lion, cheetah, leopard, and large herds of zebra, wildebeest, eland, springbok, and much more. The beauty of Etosha is that bubbling springs throughout the park attract large concentrations of game, and wildlife can be easily observed at it gathers around waterholes.
Overnight at a camp in Etosha.

Days 11-12 :

Drive south to Okonjima Lodge. This is the base for AFRICATS, a project dedicated to the conservation of Namibia's big cats, primarily leopard and cheetah. The wildlife here is very habituated to humans, which gives an excellent opportunities to photograph cheetah, leopard, and lions, along with other wildlife. There are numerous walks on the property, as well as a bird viewing and a night hide.
Overnight at a comfortable lodge.

Day 13 :

Drive to Windhoek, with a stop at the crafts market for woodcarvings.
