Martin Meyer
Introducing Martin Meyer

Martin Meyer - 4x4 safari and qualified Field Guide professional photographer, sought after consultant and adventurer, exudes a passionate desire for travel in Africa, whilst sharing a deep-rooted compassion for the wellbeing of her communities and peoples.
Drawing from his past 15 years of career pathing experience has seen Martin traveling the America’s and Europe extensively. Studying in London brought him home to his country of birth, to once again feel the richness of South Africa’s soil trickling through his fingers.
His dedication and years of training as a black belt martial-arts practitioner and Advanced Scuba Diver, allowed him to focus his energy and achieve the first qualification as a Certified Internet Web developer locally. Armed with knowledge he quickly set up his own web studio, filling a vacant niche in the emerging world of local online media. Martin’s endeavours opened many new horizons, allowing him to work contractually for a successful Cape Town Advertising agency, which led to full time employment.
With the pulse of Africa beating strongly, he accepted the invitation to join a start up Safari Company in Tanzania. Giving him first hand experience in building and running a safari company. Martin guided extensively, whilst developing marketing material and liaising with lodges/support companies and clients. However, the afternoon glow of the Serengeti and Mara regions many natural wonders and shimmering sunsets, bore an irresistible calling to photograph and record these powerful images and life changing encounters.
Martin found the age old art of painting with light fulfill a
creative urge within. The culmination of which saw Martin and his wife
& business partner Nicole, hosting a
photographic exhibition.
Showcasing his contemporary African style on his odyssey of wildlife
and travel photography through exotic locations such as Tanzania,
Namibia, Madagascar, Botswana, Cape Town and Zanzibar in January 2007.
Returning to Cape Town to raise their family, Martin used his
sharply honed skillset, and took up the challenge and opportunity to
set up a now market leading Four
Wheel Drive adventure/safari
company. After years of working as a partner, he readjusted his
sights. Being headhunted, allowed Martin and his family the
opportunity of moving to the majestic Garden Route to run a Gold Crown
Resort; as the general Manager of a 50 chalet, 260 sleeper lodge
complex.
Currently -
Martin and his family re-located to Cape Town and he now holds a FGASA
field Guiding Certificate of Southern Africa. (FGASA Membership No
12579) With his baobab size store of knowledge, people skills and the
love of the outdoors have made him a very sought after guide, giving
him the opportunity to work as a freelance private guide and
photographer.
Continuing his education Martin has recently completed his Advanced
Wilderness Medic qualification through the internationally accredited
Wild Medix Emergency First
Response training programme. He is currently studying toward his Advanced Mountain Walking Leader certification.
With the true spirit of ‘Ubuntu’ coursing vigorously through his
veins, he currently resides on the Board of Directors of the Memory
Foundation, whilst advising and
consulting for a selection of high caliber safari companies.
In closing - It
is often said that a picture can tell a thousand words. Martin knows
firsthand that the wisdom and weight of African proverbs/idioms often
explain a thousand words in one simple statement or sentence.
There are many long-winded explanations, online articles and a plethora of “self help” books on how thinking positively is beneficial.
A Tanzanian proverb sums Martin’s philosophy, vision, and work ethic perfectly.
One who bathes willingly with cold water doesn't feel the cold.
- Tanzanian proverb
